Escudero To Initiate Probe If Napoles Is Used To Harass Opposition

Senator Escudero To Set Probe If Duterte Admin Used Napoles To Harass Opposition

Senator Francis Escudero set to initiate new probe if Duterte administration will use Janet Lim-Napoles to harass the opposition.

On Thursday (May 11, 2017), Escudero said during the regular Kapihan at Senate that the previous administration focuses only on one group or sector without considering the other side. The senator was hoping that this time it would not be the same again.

The senator stressed out that if it will happen again, it will be the time for them considering to file a new resolution to open the case again. He made the statement upon seeking comments on suspicion that Napoles would be used by the Duterte administration to harass the opposition by implicating its members into the issue.

Escudero wanted the Senate to pursue the investigation on the issue since the entire P14 billion alleged misused of lawmakers or known as “Pork Barrel” funds was not covered by the probe conducted by the Commission of Audits  (COA).

“Hiniling ko na magpatuloy yun noon pero hindi nagpatuloy dahil na nagsampa na ng mga kaso laban sa ilang mga incumbent, sa mga senador at doon na natigil ang kaso,” said by Escudero quoted by Inquirer.

Aside from Napoles, former Senators Juan Ponce-Enrile, Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. Enrile was charged in connection with the pork barrel scam.

Senator Enrile had been allowed to post bail, but Revilla and Estrada have been detained at the Philippine National Custodial Center.

Esudero pointed out that COA probe only focused on the P2 billion pork barrel scam when the P6 billion already go to Napoles, who allegedly masterminded the pork scam. He also urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the remaining P6 billion.
