Mysterious Deep-Sea Creature In Sultan Kudatar Linked To Magnitude 7.2 Earthquake
A mysterious deep-sea creature was found in Sultan Kudarat after an intensity 5 quake. Is it related to the magnitude 7.2 quake in Sarangani?
On early Saturday morning (April 30, 2017), The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announced that Sarangani province was struck by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake and followed by numerous aftershocks.
The volcanology agency explained that the magnitude 7.2 quake has struck 57 kilometers southwest of Sarangani in Davao Occidental, at the depth of 57 kilometers and tectonic in origin.
Intensity V was felt in General Santos City; Koronadal City; Santa Maria, Jose Abad Santos,
Don Marcelino, Balot Island, Davao Occidental; Polomolok, Tupi, South Cotabato; Alabel, Malapatan, Glan, Sarangani; Palimbag, and Sultan Kudarat.
The Facebook page “NowReader” has posted a photo of a mysterious deep-sea creature, which was found in the coastal areas of Brgy. Tibpuan, Lebak Sultan Kudarat after intensity V quake was felt in the area.
The netizens were puzzling if the scary deep-sea creature found in Sultan Kudarat was related to the powerful tremor that has struck the province of Sarangani in Davao Occidental.
The photos have caption of:
“Matapos ang intensity 5 na lindol isang deep-sea creature ang natagpuan baybayin ng Brgy. Tibpuan, Lebak Sultan Kudarat nitong hapon lamang.
Ano po ang masasabi niyo? May koneksyon ba ito sa lindol o nagkataon lang?”
The netizens identified the mysterious sea creatures as “Moray Eel” or Muraenidae, which can be both found in tropical and temperate seas.
Previously, numerous appearance of oarfish in shallow waters was spotted nationwide, which was followed by series of earthquakes. Field experts believe that deep-sea creatures have the ability to detect an impending earthquake by moving to the shallow waters.
The photos have already garnered 300 reactions, 137 shares, and 74 comments.
