SUMMER JOB – The city of Bacolod has hired for more than 1,700 students on their summer job program with the support of Special Program for the Employment Students (SPES) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Based upon the report of the Manila Bulletin on their site, Anthony Ayco, the head of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), said that the aim of the program is to help the students on their tuition fee for the upcoming school year, most especially those students who have moved up to Senior High School.

Honorable Evelio Leonardia, the Bacolod City Mayor and Greg Gasataya, the Lone District Representative, attended the orientation together with the beneficiaries administered by PESO held at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports Center on Friday.

At Gasataya’s part,  through the program, he was urging the youth to never stop their pursuit to conclude their education.

He even took Babes Irine Venteroso as an example. She is 28 years old and has become a mother in her youth years. Irine is the oldest among the beneficiaries who were lucky enough to avail the opportunity.

She is  now a senior in her course, Bachelor of Information System at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College on the institution’s satellite campus in Alijis.

It was mentioned in the report however, that DOLE only provided 150 slots for the Bacolod due to the city’s failure to pass the liquidation report of the expenses of the SPES last year.

Nevertheless, Ayco said that the other 1,000 students were hired by the PESO office. All of them will be paid by the city government by 60 percent and 40 percent by DOLE.

Based on the report, according to DOLE, SPES is assisting deserving students and out of school youths in financial matters as to their education.
