3 Suspects Arrested By NBI After Stealing Money Through Hacked Facebook Accounts
NBI agents in Davao City have arrested 3 suspects allegedly working with a hacker to steal money from hacked Facebook accounts.
On Monday afternoon (April 17, 2017), the National Bureau of Investigations (NBI) – Davao region has arrested 3 suspects in an entrapment operation at a money remittance outlet. The suspects were identified as Noli Carajasan, Jessie Suansing and 8-month pregnant Stephanie Tagyamon.
The suspects were allegedly conniving with a hacker staying in Tagbilaran, Bohol, who was identified as Dennis Paler. The suspects were arrested for collecting a large amount of cash from hacked accounts.
NBI Regional Director Atty. Arnold Rosales said that the suspects were hacking accounts and pretending to be the relatives of the complainant, without knowing that the social media account of their loved ones was hacked. The suspects were claiming the amount sent by their victims.
One of the complainant’s relatives in Cebu was victimized by these suspects by sending cash after receiving messages from the suspect last April 15-16, 2017, unknowing that the account was already hacked.
The complainant asked help from the authorities of NBI to chase the suspects when she knew about it.
“Ginamit ang Facebook para makatransact sa mga kamag-anak, nanghingi ng pera tapos nalaman nalang ng mga kamag-anak nya na hindi siya ang nanghihingi ng pera,” said by Rosales quoted by ABS-CBN.
The suspects admitted to working with the hacker and said that they were earning P2, 000 each per cash collected from hacked account. The pregnant Tagyamon admits that she know its illegal, but she really needs money.
They violated the Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 and will be charged with estafa.
