Emma Morano, 19th Century’s Last Survivor, Dies At 117

Emma Morano, the oldest person and the only survivor left from the 19th century passed away at the age of 117.

Emma Morano, the last survivor of the 19th century and is considered to be the oldest person that has lived faced her death at the age of 117 last April 15.

According to the report of  Inquirer, Morano was reportedly born on the 29th of November of year 1899. She died at Verbania, her home in Italy.

Silvia Marchionini, the honorable mayor of Verbania, said that Emma Morano has lived an “extraordinary life” and that they will never forget her “strength to move forward in life.”

As mentioned in the report, according to the Gerontology Research Group (GRG), Morano holds the crown for being the oldest person followed by Violet Brown, a Jamaican who was born on March 10, 1900.

The death of Morano led to the fact that, as of now, no one has been born before the year 1900. She died at the age of exactly 117 years and 137 days.

Based on the report, Emma Morano’s first love had his untimely death on the World War 1 and remarried again but to a violent husband whom he left afterwards because she couldn’t take his treatments to her. At that period of time, it was 30 years after before the divorce in Italy got legalized.

During her interview with the AFP last year, she bares that the secret for her long life is through her diet.

“I eat two eggs a day, and that’s it. And cookies. But I do not eat much because I have no teeth,” she said in an interview with AFP in her residence last year.

Yamile Vergara, her nurse for more than 40 years stated that what impresses her most is her patient’s memory. According to her, Emma Morano never forgets.

Nowadays, it is undeniably jaw-dropping to hear that there are still people who can actually go above 90 years of age considering the many health threats around us.
