Male Devotees Voluntarily Joins Crucifixion To Avoid Earthquake As A Part Of Their Vows
Male devotees in Santo Tomas Batangas joins crucifixion as a part of their commitment this Holy Week, to avoid catastrophic events such as earthquakes.
Previously, Batangas has been struck by series of earthquakes, which causes damage to its historical church, provincial capitol, some building, and establishments in the province. The powerful tremor also frightened the residents after experiencing numerous aftershocks.
Regarding the quake incident, male devotees in Batangas has voluntarily joined the crucifixion as a part of their vow and commitment this Lenten Season. The devotees were offering their sacrifices of painful crucifixion for the series of quakes in the province and for the victims of Extrajudicial Killing (EJK).
Greg Meer, one of the devotees who is being crucified every Holy Week for 5 years believes that united prayers are effective and answered by God. He also said that the authorities should be more careful in implementing the crackdown on illegal drugs.
Meer and his group also wanted to emphasize that Holy Week is the time for sufferings and offering sacrifices to the Lord.
Meanwhile, the Roman Catholic churches discouraged the public to hurt themselves in order to pay the wages of their sin. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President Archbishop Socrates Villegas said that we can’t add to the merits of Christ passion.
“We don’t have to hurt ourselves anymore because we cannot add to the merits of Christ’s passion,” said by Villegas quoted by ABS-CBN.
Fr. Ilde Dimaano from Archiodese of Batangas said that every person has their own ways to offer their sacrifices to the Lord, but it is more important that they will live according to what the Bible says.
