Valley Fault System Launched By Phivolcs
Phivolcs launched a map or a Valley Fault System (VFS) Atlas to help the individual to determine if their location is located in the fault.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) launched an application or tool, aiming to help its users to check if their homes can are located in the fault areas, which has a greater risk of danger.
This tool provides the following interactive map as a quick reference on the affected areas. The residents whose house is located on the top or within 20 meters from the Marikina Valley Fault on this map, is advised to contact Phivolcs for more details and information.
PHIVOLCS director Renato Solidum, Jr. explained in an interview that the information contained in the interactive maps should be clarified with the official Atlas from their agency for accurate information and to ensure the safety of every individual. The map shown above was the VFS of 2015, which was recently updated this 2017.
“It sometimes happens that a look-up on an interactive map may be off the mark by just a millimeter, but that translates into a difference of several meters in real life,” said by Solidum quoted by GMA.
Solidum also stressed that the VFS Atlas is very important to use as the final source. Phivolcs launched the map to raise awareness and help everyone to ensure the safety of residents near the fault lines.
