Speaker Alvarez won’t easily endorse an impeachment complaint.
SPEAKER ALVAREZ – House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said that the substance of an impeachment complaint should be studied first before endorsement.
Based on a recent news report in InterAksyon, Speaker Alvarez told the News5 that he still wants to study the content of the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Robredo before he will endorse it.
According to the House Speaker, he does not want to get embarrassed before the impeachment court.
Based on the report, Atty. Oliver Lozano, one of those who sent the copy of the impeachment complaint against the Vice President to the House Speaker, has shown confidence that the complaint will get through the careful study of Speaker Alvarez.
According to the lawyer, it was the House Speaker “who initiated the call” to have Vice Pres. Robredo removed from office.
In the complaint against Vice Pres. Robredo, two grounds were mentioned: “Culpable Violation of the Constitution” and “Betrayal of Public Trust.”
In a letter sent to the House Speaker, Atty. Lozano and Melvin Chavez asked Speaker Alvarez to endorse the impeachment complaint against the Vice President. The two tagged the Vice President as “the termite of the government”.
Based on a previous news report, Speaker Alvarez has once told the CNN that he is studying the possibility of filing an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Robredo.
According to the House Speaker, this is the only time that a government officer who is sitting on one of the top positions “brazenly maligned” the country before the other nations.
Speaker Alvarez then raised a quest on the probable effects of Vice Pres. Robredo’s move.
Based on the report, the House Speaker and Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella claimed that Vice Pres. Robredo could be behind the first impeachment complaint against Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Meanwhile, Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano, who filed the complaint against the Chief Executive, expressed that the move of filing an impeachment complaint versus the Vice President for what she has said before the United Nations shows that the Duterte Administration does not welcome criticisms.
Alejano also expressed that it is the House Speaker’s way to drag the issue away from the Pres. Duterte and “to cover his crimes” in the campaign against illegal drugs.
