Surgeons remove 915 ‘good luck coins’ from the belly of a sea turtle.
Thailand – A 25-year-old sea turtle was close to death and unable to dive down in her pond after swallowing coins thrown into her pond by vacationers.
In Thailand, it is believed that throwing coins onto turtle will bring good fortune. A turtle name as “Bank” lived for two decades in a small park in the eastern two of Sri Racha.
Visitors tossed coins into her pond seeking to have a good luck. However, this 25-year-old sea turtle restored his fortune in his stomach.
For many years, a female turtle had to endure this superstition while staying in a public pool. It was then discovered that the turtle was struggling to breathe and having a cracked shell.

Sick and nearing to death, the turtle was delivered to veterinarians. The X-Ray revealed the horde of coins including a pair of hooks is inside in his stomach.
A team of five surgeons from Chulalongkorn University’s veterinary faculty removed the coins while the turtle was under general anesthesia.
They have performed a life-saving surgery and pulled out a staggering 915 coins in the turtle’s stomach.
During the operation, the surgeons took out each coin one by one through a 4-inch incision.

According to the Associate Professor Nantarika at Chulalongkorn University, the vet who has been top the rescue, she revealed that the coins they found in the turtle’s stomach came from numerous countries primarily in Asia.
“Bank had built up fairly a collection. It’s much more saving than a lot of individuals has,” Nantarika added.
The 3D scans revealed an enormous lump of metal lodged inside the turtle’s stomach that was said to be the cause of the serious swelling, infections along with a cracked shell.
According to a report of Gizmodo, assuming that Bank gets better and she’s allowed to return to her home, but it is not clear if the tourists are still be allowed to toss the coins at her.
Prof. Nantarika urged others to not throw coins into pools exactly where marine creatures resides because it is extremely harmful
