In the previous report, the Environmental Secretary Gina Lopez has recently given her statement which she vowed to prevent the American children’s television network Nickelodeon from building an underwater resort and theme park in Coron, Palawan.

The DENR issued the statement of Lopez by posting it on their official Twitter account, after the Viacom announced its plan to build resort and theme park in Coron.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said: “Lopez says she won’t allow the underwater theme park in Palawan.”

Nickelodeon was now facing another controversy after the environmental group Save Philippine Seas launched an online petition dubbed “No to Nickelodeon’s Underwater Theme Park in Palawan.”

The campaign was led by Anna Oposa, co-founder of Save Philippine Seas, on Bataris.com.

The petition can be accessed through social media sites like the Facebook and Twitter.

Nickelodeon clarified that it wants to build a resort and attraction with an ocean conservation focus, but it won’t build anything that underwater.

According to the report, Susan Lee of Coral World Park Undersea Resort (CWP) sent a statement to Coconuts Manila which read as:

“There has never been any form of communication from our side mentioning a theme park,” Lee said.

The CWP also denied that they have a massive 400-hectare park.

“Only 100 hectares was allocated for its Nickelodeon facility, with up to 30 hectares allocated for the attraction, which has not been finalized yet. The only infrastructure in the water is floating and all developments are on land,” says the statement.

CWP claims that the information has been misunderstood.
