Rainy Christmas Day On Philippines, PAGASA Says

PAGASA: Philipines May Experience A Rainy Christmas Day

On Monday (December 19, 2016), PAGASA announced that the Philippines will experience a rainy Christmas Day due to the low-pressure area in the Pacific Ocean.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that they have spotted a low-pressure area (LPA) in the Pacific, but it is still far from the Philippines. The LPA was located 2, 500 kilometers east of Mindanao, according to Jori Loiz, PAGASA senior weather forecaster.

The weather bureau can’t still determine if the LPA would hit Philippines landmass. “As of now, we could not say yet whether it will intensify further or it will hit Philippine landmass,” said by Loiz quoted by Philstar.

The LPA was expected to hit some parts of the country during Friday or Christmas eve, according to some forecast models. Most parts of the Philippines including Metro Manila will experience cloudy skies and rainy weather for the 3 to 5 days.

Several areas in Luzon such as Baguio and Tuguegarao were expected to experience light rains due to the northeast monsoon. Loiz also said that even the temperature drops in the morning during this month, the coldest weather temperature will be experienced during the peak of the northeast monsoon season by January or February 2017.

Tacloban and Davao will also to experience cloudy skies and light rains due to the monsoon. Christmas Day might be rainy but still, people can happily celebrate the holiday season despite the bad weather.

On Tuesday (December 20, 2016), the water from the Angat Dam will be released by National Power Corp. (Napocor) to retain the security and to maintain the water on the safety level in the dam. By 8 am on Tuesday, Napocor would initially open their spillway gate at 0.5 meters to reduce the water level by around 68 cubic meters per seconds.
