Ombudsman Morales sounded the alarm over the revision and distortion of the real account of history, particularly, the events during the Martial Law.
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio- Morales slammed the revising and distorting of stories and accounts during the Martial Law under the Marcos administration.
Talking to the alumni homecoming of the University of the Philippines – College of Law on Friday, the Ombudsman sounded the alarm over what she called the “revisionist distortionist proclivity” prevalent in the society today that tends to ignore the history.
The event was held on the day that thousands of flocked the Rizal Memorial Park to protest the November 18 burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB).
Ombudsman Morales quoted the 19th century historian and professor at Cambridge University Lord Acton, saying that those who could not remember what happened in the past have the tendency to write a new version.
According to Morales, those who do not remember the past are expected to repeat it.
