Newly-crowned Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa said that mental health awareness is one of her advocacy. And she believes that drug addiction is a mental health issue.
During an interview with GMA News‘ “News to Go,” the beauty queen shared that addiction is a sickness rather than a criminal act.
The Filipina Beauty queen was asked during the interview about drug addiction in the country.
Kylie said the Philippines may be forgetting the mental aspect of drug addiction amid the government’s relentless war on drugs. She pointed out during her interview that it was important to trace the mental roots of addiction and see it as a “coping mechanism.
Verzosa said, “It is something mental, it is something that can be cured,” adding that “it’s something that the Philippines can really focus on as well, because they do forget the mental aspect of it.”
