Fishermen Still Advised to Avoid Panatag Shoal for Good

Our fishermen still need to avoid sailing on Panatag or Scarborough Shoal. This advise came from The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to avoid further conflict with China. Last July 12, 2016 it was declared as a common fishing ground by the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

Wednesday (August 03, 2016) Charles Jose, DFA spokesperson said that they’re just waiting for the issue to cool down after the decision of the court. In his statement, those who will be caught illegally fishing in the disputed area can be put behind bars according to China’s Supreme Court.

“In our side, let stay calm for we know that Scarborough shoal was still occupied by China,” he said.

Hague-based court declared last July 12, 2016 that the Shoal is a common fishing ground, Jose insisted. He also said that fishermen from Pangasinan and Zambales should occupy the area during former President Fidel Ramos talks with China as special envoy.
