Putting up regional rehab centers is one of the grounds that might save drug users under the governance of the Duterte Administration.
Rehab Centers to be set up regionally is one of the factors link in the war against drugs according to Ernesto Abella, the presidential spokesperson of the Duterte Administration.
The newly elected President, Rodrigo ‘Digong’ Duterte, has been very vocal on how he considers the use of illegal drugs. In fact, in one of his television campaign ads, he expressed that he really hates drugs.
After a landslide victory in the 2016 presidential election, Digong is expected to totally eradicate drug users and pushers in three to six months as he had promised during the campaign.
Well now it is really visible that the words of this brave man seem to cut like a knife in the neck of the drugs users and as well as drug pushers. A lot of reports already proved that drugs users who still want their lives already surrendered to the police authorities or local government officials.
The big question now is that what will happen next after they surrender?
As mentioned earlier, Abella said that Philippines might consider regional rehab centers that will house drug users on changing themselves.
Yes rehab centers are already existent for years – together with the rampant use, trade, and circulation of illegal drugs in the country. It’s quite blurry to point out on how it will help these people.
Yet despite the above premised, there is something different in here now. Now, the drug users and pushers voluntarily submit themselves to the police authorities. It might be fear that have driven them to do that, but the act of surrendering oneself could already be counted to a great possibility of changing oneself.
There were those people who never made a change inside the rehab centers. Yes that is true but let us also dig deeper that there is a possibility that those people went inside the portals of the centers not in their own free will.
The putting up of rehab centers isn’t much a change but what drives it, the surrendering of the illegal drug users, is something that really counts. Something that is really a ‘change’.
That is on the value aspect. Let us consider another point, a more visible one – is it practicable to have it now in the Philippines? Where would the facilities be taken from?
Practicability is another thing here. Do the Philippines have enough fund to set up these rehab centers most especially that the plan is regionally?
Let us not be too idealistic, the country’s fund is not that big enough but on the positive note, right appropriation of budget and Pres. Digong’s aim to eradicate corruption in the government would really be a big help.
If the people’s money would be appropriated and used rightly, facilities and other resources which are a question now would soon be answered.
In any aspect, there is always even a little light in a very dark situation. The thing is that people should not allow themselves to be consumed by the darkness.
