Youngest elected mayor in the country Josh Edward Cobangbang has sworn into office. At the age of 21, he is leading the municipality of Cabugao in Ilocos Sur.
On Friday, Mayor Cobangbang led the flag raising ceremony, met with the local officials, and distributed equipment to the farmers. He also inspected the municipal building.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the 21-year-old Mayor said that he gave instructions to the people on what he wanted to do during the flag-raising ceremony.
“I gave instructions this morning during our first flag-raising ceremony what I wanted to do,” he said.
According to Mayor Cobangbang, he wants all the 33 barangays to have potable water source for each household and for the farmers.
“According to some studies, by 2017 it’s going to be hard, there is also another study conducted where we can get sources of water. My dream is that all the households will have a potable source of water and that of the rice field too have easy access to water,” he added.
Mayor Cobanbang also hopes to promote the beaches in the town to attract more local and foreign tourists.
Aside from that, he also want to coordinate with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to give opportunity to youths who was not able to go to school.
While he has a lot of plans for the town with 36,000 population, the Mayor said that he is aware that a lot of people do not believe in his capacity because of his age.
