Is Panacañang the new Malacañang Palace?
The Malacañang of the south, also known as “Panacañang”, might be the new Malacañang Palace, according to several reports.
“Panacañang” is the president-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s guest house which is located at the compound of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional equipment services office in Davao City.
After the incoming president won the May elections, he has been conducting meetings at the Matina Enclaves clubhouse, where he also welcomed VIPs and well-wishers.
But due to security threats, he moved to the current presidential guest house. “Panacañang” was named after Barangay Panacan where it was located.
While waiting for his inauguration on June 30, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has been conducting meetings and interviews at the presidential guest house.
Incoming presidential peace adviser Jesus Dureza said in an interview with ABS-CBN News that he has his own bedroom in the house which is facing the sea. He also said that it is bullet-proof.
According to Dureza, Duterte may still hold the office at Malacañang Palace in Metro Manila, but he will still return to Davao City from time to time.
The inauguration of Duterte will be held on Rizal Ceremony Hall of Malacañang palace. According to Philstar, more than 600 guests will attend the oath-taking ceremony.
Duterte will have a separate inauguration from the vice-president elect Leni Robredo.
