Leni Robredo secures Vice President position.
Outgoing Camarines Sur representative Leni Robredo secured the Vice President position as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) extends the filing deadline of Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE).
According to Philstar, the Comelec granted the request of Liberal Party to extend the filing of SOCE from June 8 to June 30. The voting resulted to 4-3.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press briefing that if the request was not granted, it will have a big impact.
“The law never intended for the results to be so absurd. You have to understand it will have a big impact if the deadline is not extended,” he said.
Jimenez stressed that the extension applies to all candidates and parties who have not submitted their SOCE.
It was earlier reported that Leni Robredo might lose the vice presidential position as the Liberal Party failed to submit their SOCE on June 8.
Robredo filed her SOCE on time, but the LP and its standard-bearer Mar Roxas failed to meet the deadline.
In a previous interview, Jimenez said that if the political party failed to file the SOCE, the candidates running under it will not be able to assume the office.
“Nakalagay sa batas na kapag hindi nakapag-file ‘yung political party, ‘yung mga candidates na ‘yun hindi rin makakaupo. That’s what the law says right now and it’s also in the resolution. As you can imagine, that might have far-reaching consequences,” he was quoted saying.
LP camp also explained that they are still preparing the papers for Mar Roxas.
