Marks had suffered hip injuries while on mission in Iraq and had to undergo four rounds of surgery in 18 months.

It was also reported that Marks spent nine days being supported by an advanced medical system, which is called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), that would allows oxygen to be added to the blood outside the body.

Following her recovery, Marks won gold for winning the 100m freestyle swimming and other swimming events in the Invictus Games, where she asked the prince to donate her award to the said medical team.

Harry handed over the medal to the team at London’s Kensington Palace together with Staff Sergeant Elizabeth Marks who describes the hospital as, “undoubtedly the best place for someone having this condition” (referring to her illness).
