The leading Vice Presidential candidate Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo took a bus ride to her hometown in Naga City on Monday night despite concerns on her security during travels via public transport. In an interview with some reporters, Rep. Robredo noted that she would rather still ride a bus, but would agree to a “compromise” wherein she is accompanied by her staff.
For the past few years, Rep. Leni Robredo and her three daughters had been taking the provincial bus in travelling between Manila and the city of Naga their permanent resident in the Bicol Region even she was elected as congresswoman of her district in Camarines Sur.
The presumptive vice president of the Republic of the Philippines admitted that many of her constituents and close supporters expressed concern of her going home via bus because of the current state of the official COMELEC counts for the Vice Presidential race.
In an interview with GMA News, Rep. Leni Robredo was quoted as saying “Ang pag-uwi ko na ito, ang daming kumontra kasi hindi pa ako napo-proclaim at mas mabuti raw na huwag muna ma-expose masyado dahil mayroong danger,” she said.
Although the congresswoman from Naga City admitted that security is indeed needed once she will assume the office of the vice president, she noted that she wants to keep herself grounded.
Last Sunday, Rep. Leni Robredo already claimed victory in the vice presidential race against Sen. Bongbong Marcos after keeping a slim margin over the past few days. Although some of her supporters assured of her win she is calling the attentions of everybody to keep calm and wait for the official announcement from the COMELEC.
