Vice President Jejomar Binay got the support of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), one of the largest opposition party in the Philippines. This was the statement made by the founders of the NPC and stalwarts of vote-riche provinces which openly defied the leadership of the NPC who announced earlier that they will back independent candidate Sen. Grace Poe.
According to reelectionist Pangasinan Rep. Kimi Coquangco, daughter-in-law of business tycoon and NPC leader Eduardo Cojuangco, his group will be supporting the Vice President’s line-up in the 2016 national election.
According to Rep. Kimi Cojuangco, she and her husband Pangasinan Rep. Mark Cojuangco made the stand to support VP Binay on the same day that NPC spokesman Quezon Rep. Mark Enverga, NPC president Isabela Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao and NPC secretary-general Batangas Rep. Mark Llandro Mendoza announced the NPC would adopt Sen. Grace Poe and Sen. Chiz Escudero.
The Cojuangco family in Pangasinan are close relatives to President Aquino as they wer cousins but instead of chosing the anointed candidate of Liberal Party, Mar Roxas, they have chosen to support VP Binay, the political arch-rival of Aquino’s successor.
In the decision of the Cojuangco’s in Pangasinan, they were joined by members of the biggest political clans such as the Dy’s of Isabela, Fuentebellas, Villafuertes and Alfelors of Camarines Sur who supported VP Binay’s candidacy.
Mark Cojuangco the gobernaturial candidate in Pangasinan, is the NPC chairman of the province while former governor Alfonso Dy was the party’s former president.
