The Philippine national football team, Philippine Azkals succumbed to a humiliating 1-0 home loss against the visiting Yemen national football team. The game was held at the historic Rizal Memorial Stadium, the Azkals had several chances but failed to convert a goal and secured the much-needed three points.
According to some sports analysts the dream of the Azkals to make it to the World Cup or the Asian Cup virtully ended at home during their defeat against the team whom they previously dominated.
The breakthrough win of Yemen was their first ever victory in the World Cup Qualifying tournament as they scored their first three points despite being eliminated already from contention of making it to the World Cup.
The Azkals could have scored a breakthrough goal early in the second half, but Yemeni goalkeeper Mohammed Ebrahim Ali Ayash was a thorn in the Philippines’ side.
The Philippines is now having a tall task as they wrap up their Group H schedule on March next year against group leaders Uzbekistan and North Korea. The Azkals will face Uzbekistan in Tashkent and North Korea who will visit the Philippines for their second match.
