The Philippine national football team, Philippine Azkals continued its winning form as they defeated the visiting national team of Maldives during an international friendly match sanctioned by FIFA which was held at the historic Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Philippine Azkals slipped past Maldives with the final score at 2-0 as the country is now preparing for the highly anticipated international match against one of Asia’s powerhouse team, Uzbekistan.
During the international friendly match against Maldives the Filipinos made an impressive showing both defensively and offensively.
The Azkals first goal came courtesy of an own goal by Maldives national forward Mohammed Samdhooh at the 49th minute as he inadvertently headed the ball, which was originally intended for the Filipino-Australian football player Iain Ramsay.
Fil-Foreign reinforcement Jerry Lucena scored the second goal for the Philippine Azkals as he struck with another header at the 55th minute to double the lead.
The Philippine Azkals will play Asian powerhouse team Uzbekistan on Tuesday at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bulacan as the national squad will continue its journey in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
