Spokesman confirmed Monday a preventive suspension of Makati mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay has been approved by Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales following the involvement in the alleged anomalous construction of a ten-storey building in Makati Science High School.
“This precipitate and unduly harsh action demonstrates the undue haste and priority given to investigations against the VP and his family,” lawyer Rico Quicho, Binay family spokesperson said.
According to the resolution signed by Morales, the Mayor was ordered suspended pending the Ombudsman’s conduct of preliminary investigation on graft and other criminal and administrative complaints against him, his father VP Binay and other local officials, Makati Science High School, Hillmarc’s Corp., a construction firm and and Infinit Corp., engineering and architectural services firm.
Ombudsman Field Investigation Office (FIO) earlier filed its 26-page report to Morales recommending the filing of criminal cases against Binay father and son and other officials, counting graft and falsification of public documents as well as administrative cases of graft and falsification of public documents as well as administrative cases of grave misconduct, dishonesty and violation of code of conduct and ethical standards for public officials.
The report was then realized by the Ombudsman on Wednesday last week.
Morals has already tasked a panel to conduct a preliminary investigation on the matter.
