Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was allegedly stolen during the past weeks as confirmed by the Manila International Airport Authority. According to MAIA, they already ordered an investigation into the missing CCTV camera.
NAIA Terminal 1 manager Dante Basanta stated that the Bureau of Immigration wrote a formal complaint before his office regarding the allegedly stolen CCT camera, along with the cables for the unit.
Based upon the Bureau of Immigration report, they did not know who took the CCTV camera and cables, and how and when these were taken. Reports also noted that a portion of the immigration area was recently closed while rehabilitation works were being undertaken by DMCI as part of the NAIA Terminal 1 rehabilitation.
The alleged stolen incident was discovered when the works on the immigration area were about to be completed, they intelligence and monitoring team of BI already activated their CCTV camera but the system failed.
During their investigation, a CCTV technician was surprised to discover that the camera and cables were missing. The NAIA Terminal 1 management already coordinated with the Immigration Bureau regarding the incident inside NAIA. The investigation also noted that aside from the camera, lockers in the airport’s press club office were also forced open and contents were stolen.
