Controversial chief executive of Davao City, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte revealed the reasons behind why he is supporting the propsed Bangsamoro Basic Law during his visit to Cotabato City. The visit of Mayor Dutere was supposed to focus on federalism, however he decided not to dwell on the issue, instead he expressed support with the BBL.
During the visit of Mayor Duterte he was quoted as saying “I am here to show my support to BBL. Kaisa ako ng mga taga Central Mindanao in their aspirations to achieve long lasting peace,” Duterte said. The mayor added further that “Hintayin muna natin ang kalalabasan ng BBL bago ako magsalita tungkol sa federalism,” he added.
The controversial Davao City mayor also noted that in order for the Bangsamoro government to succeed, Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founder Nur Misuari must be involved and consulted in the Mindanao peace process.
Aside from showing his support with the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law, Mayor Duterte also reiterated that he will not be running for President in the upcoming 2016 elections.
The 70-year-old Mayor Rodrigo Duterte also belied accusations on his alleged involvement in the the extrajudicial killings in Davao City. In an earlier interview with the local media, Mayor Duterte confirmed that there’s indeed a group called Davao Death Squad but on later interviews he belied his earlier statement.
