Mark Zuckerberg Announced the Launching of Internet.Org in the Philippines (March 19)

The founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg announced on Thursday, March 19, 2015 (PST) the launching of Internet.Org in the Philippines. The announcement of Internet.Org’s launching in the Philippines was posted on Mark Zuckerberg’s official Facebook account.

“We’re one step closer to connecting the world as we launched Internet.org in the Philippines today. Now everyone in the country can have free access to internet services for health, education, jobs and communication on the Smart network.”

The 30-year-old Mark Zuckerberg also posted a photo of a Filipino tricycle driver who was shot in Manila using Facebook and the internet to stay in touch with loved ones who moved to Dubai.

Local telecommunications company Smart, Talk ‘N Text, and Sun Cellular has partnered with Ineternet.org to bring free internet in the Philippines. The Facebook initiative Internet.org brings together technology leaders, nonprofits and local communities to connect two thirds of the world that doesn’t have internet access.

Those subscribers of the said telcos can enjoy free internet access in any parts of the country as long as there’s a network signal. Some of te country’s most popular website also partnered with Internet.Org to provide free access to all Filipinos.
