More Than 8,000 Passengers Stranded Due to Bagyong Seniang

More than 8,000 passengers are now stranded in various ports in the country due to Bagyong Seniang which made a landfall earlier in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on its statement released on Monday, December 29, 2014, an estimated 8,696 passengers are stranded in various ports across the country.

PCG spokesperson Lt. Cdr. Armand Balilo noted that 90 vessels, 19 motor boats, and 249 rolling cargoes were also barred from leaving ports in CAGARA, Eastern and Northern Mindanao, and Central Visayas areas.

The Philippine Coast Guard advised all passengers to check the weather conditions in their areas of destinations in order to avoid being stuck in ports.

Aside from the Philippine Coast Guard announcement of stranded sea vessels, some domestic flights of the country’s flag carrier Philippine Airlines and budget carrier Cebu Pacific have been cancelled already due to typhoon Seniang.

PAGASA also noted that as of 10:00 AM today, Bagyong Seniang is located at 33 km Northeast of Butuan City or 30 km East of Cabadbaran City. The Tropical Storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 80 kph.

Bagyong Seniang is forecast to move West Northwest at 11 kph., and expected to be at the vicinity of Negros Oriental on Tuesday morning. In Wednesday, Bagyong Seniang is forecast to be at 160 km East of Puerto Princesa City.

PAGASA also updated the Public Storm Warning Signals affected by Bagyong Seniang. Signal No. 2 is now raised over Surigao del Norte, Siargao Island, Agusan del norte, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Agusan del Sur, Bohol, Siquijor, Southern Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Southern part of Negros Occidental.

Meanwhile, signal number 1 has been hoisted over Northern part of Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Compostella Valley, Dinagat Province, Leyte,
Southern Leyte, Camotes Island, Rest of Cebu, Rest of Negros Occidental, Guimaras.
