The Department of Education (DepEd) and various Local Government Units (LGU’s) across the Philippines particularly in the parts of Visayas and Mindanao declared suspension of classes on Thursday, November 27, 2014, due to Bagyong Queenie that is currently battering some parts of Southern Philippines. The Province and City of Cebu declared suspension of classes today, due to the tropical depression.
Here’s the Initial List of Suspension of Classes as of Thursday Morning:
Cebu province – classes from elementary and secondary public schools under jurisdiction of DepEd Cebu Province (not included: Mandaue City, Talisay City and Danao City)
Cebu City – classes in all levels in public schools
Lapu-Lapu City – classes in all public elementary schools
Mandaue City – classes in all public schools
Schools:
- University of Cebu (No Classes in All Levels in All Campuses)
- University of San Jose Recolletos (No classes in Grade School and High School (Basak and Balamban) but classes GOES ON for College (Main and Basak).
- University of San Carlos (No classes for elementary and high school. Normal classes for tertiary level.)
- Don Bosco (No Classes in Elementary & High School Levels)
- CIT (No classes in Pre-school, Elementary and High School)
- ACT (No classes in all Levels)

According to the Department of Education (DepEd), the local government unit (LGU) has the authority to declare local suspensions of classes in areas where there is no storm signal.
Based upon the Executive Order No. 66 series of 2012, the automatic suspension of classes if there’s storm signal No. 1 is for kindergarten only, but all authorities will be given to the LGU’s in affected areas.
The local government of Cebu City and Cebu Province, already declared suspension of classes in all levels of public elementary and high schools. Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, ordered the suspension of classes in Cebu City after his meeting with City Command Control Center (C3) officials headed by City Councilor Dave Tumulak, yesterday due to Bagyong Queenie.
The Cebu Province, through Governor Jun Jun Davide also suspends classes in all levels in Southern Cebu as early as yesterday afternoon after PAGASA placed it under Storm Signal No. 1.
