Two young Filipino students gave pride to the country by wining gold and bronze medals respectively in the recent math contest which was held in China. The competition is called as the 2014 China Western Mathematics Invitational (CWMI) contest. This was held from August 14 to 19, 2014 in Chongquing City, China.
Gold medal was gained by Clyde Wesley Ang of Chaing Kai Shek College. The Bronze medal was gained by Albert John Patupat of Holy Rosary College.
According to the team leader and President of the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines who is Dr. Simon Chua, this is the first time that the Philippines has won a fold medal in the said contest. He also said that the question given this year are most difficult and the most difficult compared to the past 12 years of this competition. Indeed, they are really proud of the 2 Filipino participants who have made it.
He also said that this year’s contestants have reached to 210. They are from China, Indonesia, Macau, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Mongolia and Kazakhstan . 33 of them are gold medalist, 47 are silver medalist and the rest are bronze medalist.
Way back last month, Ang and Patupat also had won gold medals at the 2014 Korea International Mathematics Competition. This simply means that the young Filipinos can really compete to other nation and be able to bring home the gold medal or most importantly, can bring home the awards.
Indeed, they are really making their ways so that they can become the countries pride. They are actually making their parents and their fellowmen proud of them.
It’s not actually the first time that Filipinos have made it on winning international competitions.
Just continue the good work.
