Azkals Defeated by Palestine (0-1) in 2014 AFC Challenge Cup Finals

The Philippine Azkals failed to secure a goal on the upcoming Asian Cup 2015 after being defeated by the Palestine squad with the final score 0-1 in the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup Finals on Friday, May 30, 2014.

The powerhouse team of Palestinian squad captured the title after Ashraf Nu’man scored on the 58th minute of the game. With their loss, the Philippine team receive a silver medal after finishing second in the challenge cup held in Maldives National Stadium.

Both teams played a scoreless match on the first half despite of seven goal attempts for the tough and aggressive Palestinian team and five for the Philippine Azkals. The winning team dominated the ball possession and goal attacks.

On the second half, Jerry Lucena replaces Stephan Schröck who was doing fine in defense during the first half. The Palestine squad scored via free kick. Roland Muller, Philippine Azkals goalkeeper failed to cease the ball before it landed on the net.

Palestinian team will advance to AFC Asian Cup 2015 which will take place in January in Australia. Palestine will be joining the promising team of Jordan, Iraq and Japan, the defending champion in AFC Challenge Cup in Group D.

Although they were not able to bring home the title, Philippine Azkals made history after breaching to the finals of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup for the first time.
