Bobby Murphy: TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World 2014

The co-founder of the phenomenal Snapchat application, Filipino-American Bobby Murphy was named as one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2014 according to the latest announcement made by Time Magazine on their official website.

The annual TIME gala gathered luminaries from all over the world which includes politicians, actors, musicians, business leaders in a special event hosted by TIME held at the Lincoln Center on April 29, 2014 (US Time).

The 25-year-old Bobby Murphy is a son of Berkeley state employees, his mother emigrated from the Philippines. He was named as one of Time’s Most Influential People of the World alongside his fellow Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel. Both founders were also acknowledged last 2013 by Forbes as two of the 30 Under 30 individuals who influenced the world’s technological advancement.

Bobby Murphy graduated from Stanford University with majors in mathematical and computational science. He is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Snapchat, Inc. leading the development team in updating and improving the Snapchat app, and assists with hiring new programmers.

According to the history of Snapchat, Bobby Murphy met his co-founder Evan Spiegel when he was a junior in college and they first collaborated in a project called “Future Freshman” but failed. Their next project was the Snapchat, their idea got the attentions of various social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, the company that offered $3 Billion to Snapchat in which the company declined to take.

Aside from Bobby Murphy who was named as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the World 2014, another Filipino-American was awarded with the same honor.

Bobby Lopez and wife Kristen Anderson, the singer and composer behind the phenomenal song “Let It Go,” was also named as TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of the World.
