International music streaming service provider Spotify was officially launched in the Philippines on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. The music service which boasts more than 24 million active users in the world will be available on mobile, tablet and desktop all over the country.
The press launch of Spotify was held in Taguig with Spotify director for Asia Sunita Kaur noted that she is excited to introduce Spotify to music-loving Filipinos.
The Spotify executive was quoted as saying “This is our promise to music lovers in the Philippines: We’re just about to offer you the best free music experience ever. In the end of last year, we made quite a significant change in the business. Before you can access it only in the desktop but now you are able to access it for free across all your devices [tablet and mobile],” Kaur said.
Spotify is known worldwide as a free service offering music streaming, playlist creation and browsing through other Spotify users, which include popular celebrities and the songs they are currently listening to. The free service will only work if users have an Internet connection.
For users who are not connected to the Internet can still avail Spotify provided that they will upgrade to Spotify Premium. Premium users can stream music offline, they can also listen to music in high quality without being interrupted by advertisements.
In the Philippines users can avail of Spotify Premium for a low subscription rate of P129 per month. In its entrance to the Philippine market, Spotify partnered with telecommunications company in the county to provide services to its users.
Globe is one of the Philippine partner of Spotify, starting April 13, Globe Telecom Inc. will offer free Spotify services to users who avail of its GoSURF promos which will be available to prepaid, postpaid, and Tattoo subscribers.
Spotify features over 30 million songs in the Philippines which include highly popular Original Pilipino Music (OPM) songs.
