TD Basyang January 31 Signals & Hourly Update

The Tropical Depression Basyang was spotted at 768 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur according to PAGASA on their latest weather bulletin issued at around 5:00 AM of January 31, 2014.

Bagyong Basyang is the second Tropical Depression that enters the Philippine Area of responsibility after the much-hyped Tropical Depression Agaton which was dubbed earlier as Yolanda Part 2 but it was all a hoax, despite of being a Tropical Depression the typhoon devastated and flooded some areas of Mindanao.

PAGASA reported that Bagyong Basyong has a packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, moving West of the Philippines at 30 kilometers per hour (kph).

The Public Storm Signal NO. 1 has been hoisted in over 19 areas in the Visayas and Mindanao region as the storm continued to approach the Philippines’ eastern seaboard.

In an interview with dzMM radio, Gener Quitlong, PAGASA weather forecaster stated that based on the current speed and location of Bagyong Basyang, it will landfall in Surigao provinces between 11 P.M. Friday and 2:00 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2014.

PAGASA also reported that the Tropical depression may weaken and be downgraded to a Low Pressure Area upon landfall.

PAGASA warned the residents living in low-lying and mountainous areas under Storm Signal No. 1 to prepare for possible flash floods and landslides. There will be an estimated 5 to 10 millimeters per hour (moderate – heavy) rainfall is expected within the Bagyong Basyang’s 300-km diameter.
