According to South Africa’s Deaf Federation, the deaf interpreter that was used in the Johannesburg memorial of the former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela which was attended by nearly 100 heads including President Obama was fake, and was identified as Thami Jantjie who’s flapping his arms around.
The fake sign language of Thami Jantjie throughout Nelson Mandela’s memorial, will be soon hearing from the authorities.
In regard with this, the South African government take their action by means of investigating the “alleged incorrect use of sign language,” after a man stood on the stage and pretended to translate speeches of President Obama and on Tuesday December 10 at the service of Nelson Mandela , there were also several world leaders attended, and the fake interpreter Thami Jantjie also tried to interpret the leaders speech.
The National Director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa Bruno Drunchen said, “He was moving his hands around, but there was no meaning in what he used his hands for.”
As Thami Jantjie attended and stood on the stage as deaf interpreter, he was not clearly identified how he became the interpreter at Nelson Mandela memorial service.

The fake interpreter Thami Jantjie was not signing American sign languages or any of South Africa’s 11 official languages as it was agreed by the experts.
Meanwhile, the director of Sign Language Education and Development in Cape Town, Cara Loening said on the Agence France-Press, “he was complete fraud.”
Officials said, Thami Jantjie was also the same man giving his bizarre brand of sign language interpretation for the event last year attended by South African President Jacob Zuma, thus, a formal complaint was submitted to the African National Congress.
