Philippine representative for Miss Universe 2013 Ariella “Ara” Arida gathered criticism in social media on her communication skill.

Miss Universe Philippines Ara Arida made a quick stopover to Karen Davila’s ANC show Headstart on her way to airport for Moscow, Russia.
As the interview started, Davila asked permission first to the beauty queen in regard with the controversial question. After Arida declared that she’s open with any questions, Davila cautioned “I don’t want to make you feel bad before you leave.”
Davila started to enumerate the queries from Twitter. One question reads, “Karen, is she our representative to the Miss Universe? It seems like she’s having a hard time speaking in English.”
Philippines’s bet Arida remained graceful despite of the m(–foul word(s) removed–)ive pressure during Karen Davila’s interview and as her response to that question, Arida said “I’m aware of that actually,” I got a lot of… feelings especially on my communication skill(s). I’m doing my best to convey my message to the people. Like what I told my trainers, I will do my best in the competition.”
“When you get there, it’s (on) how your express yourself. Latinas can’t even complete a sentence… in English. I think it’s (just) the Filipino(s) who are critical”, she said. Arida also dismissed suggestions posted by her Twitter followers to have a translator. “Many of the candidates have a translator. But I know I’m gonna deliver,” she confidently remarked.
Davila looked at Arida and gave her more time to (–foul word(s) removed–)ure the Filipino people of her worthiness as our representative to one of the world’s most watched inter-country event. And Arida added Miss Universe is about “how you are as person” and excellent communication skills is not necessarily a deciding factor.
On other issues, Ariella also expressed how she is against transgenders joining Miss Universe. “They have their own pageants where they can show their beauty, their body,” she narrated where Davila clarified: “So, it’s a no?” Ara then answered no.
24-year-old Ara Arida is a native from Alaminos, Laguna who is set to compete with 85 other confirmed delegates at the world’s biggest, most viewed and most-talked beauty pageant.
To represent the Philippines, Arida is preparing herself for the competition and added that she’s confident enough to face her opponents.
The Miss Universe coronation night is on November 9 and will be aired on ABS-CBN on an unconfirmed date and time. If Channel 2 will air it live, most likely the show will be beamed at 1 AM on November 10 here in the Philippines.
