The Group A matches between the Philippines and Chinese Taipei will determine who will be at the top of team standing in Group A. The Gilas Pilipinas vs. Chinese Taipei game will start at around 8:30 PM, August 3, 2013.
The Philippines and the Chinese Taipei team is the only unbeaten team in Group A of FIBA Asia 2013 Championship hosted by the country. The Gilas will now face a major problem against their rival.
Here’s our preview of the game between Gilas and Chinese Taipei:
Chinese Taipei’s team features star swingman Lin Chih-Chieh and frontliners Tseng Wen-Ting and Tien Lei, they have been playinf together for over 10 years. Lee Hsueh-Lin, Yan Ching-Ming and Douglas Creighton are veterans of the national team also.
The familiarity with each other made the Taiwanese finishing Saudi Arabia with a total of 30 (–foul word(s) removed–)ists. Aside from the veterans playing for Taiwan, they have added another firewpower with naturalized player Quincy Davis, a force to reckon with inside the paint. Davis scored with 18 points and added with 11 rebounds during his team’s conquest of Jordan.
Other players to watch out by the Gilas Pilipinas defense is the dangerous Lu Cheng-Ju who exploded with 25 points on seven three pointers during Taiwan’s victory over Saudi Arabia.
The Chinese Taipei Team’s strength is their smooth drive-and-kick offense to create open opportunities. The Taiwanese exploded for 17 three-pointers against Saudi Arabia. The team relies mostly on its quickness and outside shooting prowess, the same with the Philippines firepower.
The Philippines have their own share of quickness and outside shooting powers and added with the huge crowd backing the Gilas Pilipinas team that served as the 6th-man in the game, hopefully the Philippines could show to the Taiwanese that the country deserved to be considered as a top contender in the tournament.
