Pres. Aquino’s Proposed P2.268-Trillion 2014 Budget

The President of the Republic, President Aquino submitted his proposed P2.268-Trillion national budget for 2014 for the Congress to review. Budget Sec. Florencio Abad will present the budget documents, including Aquino’s budget message, to Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. and other leaders of the House of Representatives.

According to Sec. Abad, the President’s budget proposal aim to promote “inclusive growth,” which means making the benefits of growth trickle down to the poor. The proposed 2014 budge is 13.1% or about P262 billion higher than the 2013 spending level.

The DepEd will continue to get the biggest slice of the outlay with P336.9 billion. Of that amount, nearly P45 billion will go to the maintenance of educational facilities and the construction of cl(–foul word(s) removed–)rooms, while P8.6 billion will be allocated for the hiring of more than 33,000 teachers.

The DPWH will have P213.5 billion for road upkeep and for new roads and bridges, while the DOTC will receive P48.7 billion. The DOH will have a budget of P87.1 billion, including P18 billion for the rehabilitation of district and regional hospitals, and the construction of new ones. The DSWD will receive P78.9 billion, the bulk of the budget will go to the CCT program.
