WhatsApp “SMS Killer” Hits 10 Billion Messages Per Day

WhatsApp one of the world’s most popular mobile messaging application reached a landmark as it reaches a total of 10 Billion Messages per day.

According to an official tweet from the company’s account, WhatsApp reached a total of 4 Billion outbound messages sent, and a total of 6 Billion messages received.

WhatsApp position itself as a text replacement that offers features that you don’t get with native texting apps. Although the company says that they are not the “SMS Killer” as what other industry experts dubbed the application.

The applications have already got a huge chunk of the short messaging services that was enjoyed by some telecommunications companies from around the world.

WhatsApp can also be used even without a cell phone, users can text through the use of their iPod devices with the number given to any member of WhatsApp which the company provides.

Currently the app is available through the App Store at a price of $.99, for the past few days it remained one of the top paid apps section.

The application has the ability to share photos, videos and audio notes. People who downloaded and used the applications scan their address books to see which friends were already signed up and invite others to join WhatsApp via a message sent through the service.

According to the curator of the applications, they don’t consider themselves as the “SMS Killer,” instead it refers to itself as “a drug to get people hooked on data plans.”
