To celebrate with the 10th birthday of the conjoined twins that touched their hearts and to whom they had changed lives, Mel Gibson and his estranged wife Robyn were spotted in an event held in the hills of Malibu.
The said event was in relation to the birthday of the Guatemalan conjoined twins who were separated way back August 2002 wherein Mel and Robyn had played a vital role in the life-changing moment of the kids.
Mel and Robyn had arrived in the venue separately. According to people.com, the two had their chat to their respective groups before Mel came over to Robyn and started playing with his grandchildren.
Aside from Mel and Robyn, also present in the party were three (3) of their seven children and three grandkids.
The two Guatemalan girls were Maria de Jesus and Maria Teresa Quiej-Alvarez. Connecting skulls had undergone surgery way back 2002 and it was one of the headlines especially in the field of medicine and surgery.
To recall, Mel and Robyn had been involved in several philanthropic works especially “Mending Kids”. The said non-profit organization aimed to help kids especially those with health problems for them to take a fresh start.
It was almost nine years ago when one of the very successful stories of Mending Kids took place. It was the 23-hour surgical operation of the world’s known “Two Maria’s”, the Guatemalan conjoined twins.
During the celebration, Mel and Robyn were honored for the immeasurable support that they had extended to the twins and to Mending Kids. In fact, Mel had just returned from a trip to Panama and Guatemala. The said trip was still related to his involvement to Mending Kids.
As they were honored, Mel revealed that his contribution is just a little to what his wife had invested and shared to the organization. Quoted, he said, “My wife was really far more involved than I was in the past, but we’re both still involved.”
He even added that at some point, Robyn had been extending hands-on care to the kids who are to undergo surgery. He also point out that even their children were also playing their part in giving back.
