Chris Staniforth, 20 year old guy, who was offered to study Game Design at Leicester University, died because of pulmonary embolism which occurs if someone stays in the same position for hours. He has no record of medical sickness so it was a shocked when he complained of low heart rate and collapsed outside a Jobcentre.

His family initiated a campaign about the health risks in playing online computer games after their son died in constant playing of Xbox.

According to Professor Brian Calvin, an expert on blood related conditions, with his interview with “The Sun”, young people spending long hours of playing computer games is a very unhealthy habit.

“There’s anxiety about obesity and children not doing anything other than looking at computer screens,” he told The Sun. He also started a campaign to inform the parents on the danger that their child might face.

“Games are fun and once you’ve started playing it’s hard to stop. Kids all over the country are playing these games for long periods – they don’t realize it could kill them,” he added.

Chris’s father said that his son plays Xbox non-stop for 12 hours. “He got sucked in playing Halo online against people from all over the world.”

There had been many reports of gamers collapsing after spending too long in playing computer games or other video games. In 2005, there had been a report about a South Korean who spent 3 days playing without a break which cause his death.

Microsoft who produces Xbox said that “it recommend gamers take breaks to exercise as well as make time for other pursuits.”
