Lorca, Murcia Earthquake
Southern Spain Earthquake

The southeastern city of Lorca, Spain was struck by an earthquake killing at least 8 people and injuring dozens of residents. The earthquake was recorded at magnitude 5.1 and came at 6.47pm local time, almost two hours after a 4.4 magnitude quake that caused severe damaged and forced the residents to camped outside their respective homes for fear of aftershocks.

The depth of the earthquake was at 10km in the Murcia region and could be felt as far away as the capital Madrid. Spain’s earthquake caused heavy damage because it was so shallow and the epicentre was so close to the town of Lorca. The last major quake that hit Spain was in 1956, when 12 people died in the province of Granada.
