10 Killed in NorthEast China Hotel Fire

A hotel in northeastern China was on fire Sunday and it killed 10 people while 35 others obtain injuries. Xinhua News Agency said that the hotel on fire was located in Tonghua City in the Province of Jilin in China. They didn’t give any statements about the causes of the fire but they said that it was being put out after half an hour.

Home Inns & Hotels Management Inc., a Nasdaq-listed Chinese budget hotel chain, was the owner of the hotel recently on fire and it was said to be the largest operator of economy hotels in the country. According to the information taken from their website, it was said that the company is operating 818 hotels as of year 2010.

The hotel’s description was a 7-story building having karaoke bar and a restaurant on its 1st two floors while the home inns hotel are located on the upper floors, which is from third floor to the seventh.

A man who refused to tell his name but identified as a staffer of the Tonghua city government’s office (–foul word(s) removed–)igned for emergencies said no other information about the incident but only gave the total number of the casualties of the fire. According to Xinhua News Agency, the injured individuals which three of them were in serious conditions were taken to the hospital to apply treatments while firefighters are still on their process of clearing up the site.

There were 150 people rescued from the building before they were totally eaten by fire and there were 140 firefighters sent to clear the fire. The numbers were according to the state broadcaster CCTV. They added that the fire probably started on the ground floor stairwell and climbed up to next two floors with an area of 3,200 square feet, which smoke dense up the rest higher floors.

Xinhua said that 10 individuals who were choked to death were mostly found on the 5th and 7th floors, while others including the injured ones are currently suffering nausea, dizziness and sore throats.
