Letterman received US comedy honor, Eddie Murphy recognized as Comedy Icon

New york-Comedy Central announced its first Annual US Comedy Awards on Saturday Night, March 26. The Top names in comedy were honored in an event held in New York. Host of US’ famous late-night talk show, David Letterman, won the highest honor and awarded with the Johnny Carson ,Award for Comedic Excellence.

Creator of comedy series ‘30 Rock’, Tina Fey won the “Best Comedy Actress in A Film” award for her role of “Claire Foster” in 2010’ film Date Night. Academy Award winner Dame Helen Mirren was also nominated in the same category. Tina’s co-star in ’30 Rock’, Alec Baldwin awarded as “Best Comedy Actor in Television” and The “Best Comedy Actress in Television” award went to Kristen Wiig for her work in NBC’s talk show Saturday Night Live.

“Norbit” star Eddie Murphy was named as Comedy Icon and received “Comedy Icon Award” for his extraordinary contribution to the world of comedy. Executive producer and executive vice president of MTV Networks Entertainment Group, Casey Patterson told that Murphy’s impact is immeasurable in the world of comedy and they are honored presenting him their first-ever Comedy Award.

In Film category, The Hangover star Zach Galifianakis won “Best Actor in a Film Award” for his role in “Dinner for Schmucks”. Director Adam McKay’s film The Other Guys received “Best Comedy Film” award while Lee Unkrich’s Oscar-winning film Toy Story 3 awarded as “Best Animated Film”.
