United Pakistan aiming to win ICC World Cup

Shahid Afridi celebrating his wicket against New Zealand

Skipper of Pakistani team “Shahid Khan Afridi” has made prominent statements for those who just might underestimate the Pakistani team in this year’s ICC World Cup. Afridi has said that his team is the most dangerous team in the World Cup, and he has pointed to the combination of young and experienced players are big advantage for his team.

However they are somewhat underdog because they haven’t win the world cup after 1992 (and as a matter of fact they have only win the world cup once).

When the first ever ICC World Cup 2011 press conference held in Mirpur, Shahid Khan Afridi said that he knows the worth of this tournament that how much it is important for not only his team but also for his country. And his message to rest of the teams in the world cup is that No one has any rights or what so ever to underestimate them.

He was delighted to announce the return of Kamran Akmal just right before the World Cup and said that Misbah-ul-Haq is also in a good form and now Younis Khan is also in form. And their bowling line include two spin specialists and a rocket-fast bowler like Shoaib Akhtar.

Shahid Khan Afridi said that there are some similarities between the 1992’s world cup and this year’s world cup, back then Imran Khan was missing a dangerous bowler like Waqar Younis, and his team also included a combination of young and experienced players.

One more thing that Pakistani pakhtoon fans says that the 1992’s world cup was lead by a Pathan and they won it, and history might repeat itself at 2011’s world cup as well. Although Shahid Khan Afridi is not as much dominant as Imran Khan was in 1992, but he surely is determinant like Imran Khan.

Also, one cannot deny the fact that in 2009 when Pakistan won the T20 World Cup, it was Shahid Khan Afridi who was leading that team. And who knows he might give his team the glory that entire Pakistan is seeking him to give his country.

So like many other major teams, Shahid Khan Afridi is also confident and promising captain of his team, entering the World Cup with great remarks and promises.

However, when it was asked to Shahid Khan Afridi that if they play a certain opponent if they reach the final of the world cup, he suddenly gave a smile out of dull looking facial expression and said one thing that is dream of not only Pakistani cricket fans but also Indian cricket fans, and that is to see a World Cup final of Pakistan vs India.
