Barclays Premier League Round Up

A controversial late goal rescues Roy Hodgson as Liverpool defeated Bolton at Anfield by two goals to one. Liverpool were behind at half time with Kevin Davies scoring a free header from a Matt Taylor free kick. Roy Hodgson was booed of the pitch by Anfield faithful at half time. An inspired Steven Gerrard transformed Liverpool and an inch perfect p(–foul word(s) removed–) to Fernando Torres led the Spaniard to volley the ball into the back of the net to equalize for Liverpool. It was then the matter of nerves as Joe Cole who was a late substitute towards the end of the match flicked the ball over the line to give Liverpool a much needed win in difficult circumstances.

Manchester United also ended their poor away form by registering  a 2-1 away victory against West Brom. Wayne Rooney scored his first goal from open play since March. However, his opener was cancelled out by a stunning strike from James Morrison shortly. The match was very evenly contested until the Mexican Javier Hernandez scored in the 75th minute to secure a priceless away victory for the league leaders.

Manchester city also secured a 1-0 win over Blackpool to keep pace with the league leaders United. Adam Johnson scored on the 34th minute to seal the victory for the blue half of Manchester. West Ham United also secured a m(–foul word(s) removed–)ive 2-0 victory over Wolves in a relegation 6 pointer which leaves West Ham on 15th place and with this they are out of the relegation zone for the first time this season.

Champions league contenders Spurs edged p(–foul word(s) removed–) Fulham to secure a 1-0 win to keep their champions league hopes alive. Sunderland secured a 3-0 victory at the stadium of light against Rovers. Stoke also put more misery on Everton as they registered a 2-0 win against Everton and Arsenal also keep up the pace with both Manchester City and Manchester United by securing an impressive 3-0 win over Birmingham City at Saint Andrews. On Sunday 2nd January, Chelsea play host to Aston Villa and Wigan welcome New Castle United to their DW stadium.
