PING LACSON – Here are some details about the personal background and political career of Senator Panfilo Lacson Sr.

One of the presidential candidates in the Election 2022 is Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson Jr. He is currently serving his third term in the upper chamber of the legislative body.

Ping Lacson Personal Background

Born on June 1, 1948 in Imus, Cavite, Sen. Panfilo Lacson Sr. is the son of Buenaventure and Maxima Lacson. His mother is a market vendor who was a disciplinarian who instilled great discipline in his children with regards to right and wrong. He has his grade school at the Bayang Luma Elementary School in 1960 and high school at the Imus Institute in 1964.

After finishing high school, Lacson really wanted to be a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agent but a friend of his invited him to take the Philippine Military Academy’s entrance examination. He passed the exam. He finished college in 1971.

Ping Lacson was commissioned in the Philippine Constabulary (PC) then Armed Forces of the Philippines’ major service for peace and order and enforcement of laws in the country. He took a post-graduate degree of Master in Government Management at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and finished it in 1996.

Lacson is married to Alice de Perio and their marriage is blessed with four (4) children – Panfilo “Pampi” Lacson Jr., Jeric Lacson, Ronald Jay Lacson, and Reginald Lacson.

Ping Lacson Political Career

From 1971 to 1999, Lacson worked at the Philippine Constabulary Metropolitan Command (Metrocom), Metrocom Intelligence and Security Group (MISG), and the Presidential Anti-Crime Commission (PACC). During his term at Metrocom, he led the rescue of the business tycoon John Gokongwei Jr.’s daughter, Robina Gokongwei-Pe. Supposedly, the businessman wants to give him and his men rewards but he refused it as he does not want his men to adapt a mentality of not helping those who cannot give them rewards. Instead of the rewards, the business tycoon donated mobile cars to PC Metrocom.

From 1998 to 2001, he served as the chief of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF). In 1999, he became the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). It was in 2001 when he started his term as a senator. Currently, he is one of the presidential candidates in the Election 2022.
