Cop Arrested for Robbery-Holdup in Tagum City, Davao del Norte

An active police officer was arrested on Tuesday (March 14, 2023) for allegedly committing robbery in Tagum City, Davao del Norte. The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Patrolman Ralph Doria, who was stationed in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

According to the investigation, Doria posed as a customer in a store and then declared a hold-up, brandishing his firearm to intimidate the shopkeeper. The suspect managed to collect an undisclosed amount of cash before attempting to flee when police arrived on the scene.

The responding police officers were able to catch up to the suspect, who then surrendered his issued firearms, ammunition, and P5,000 in cash. Despite the evidence against him, Doria denied the allegations and claimed his innocence.

“Apparently, sa kaniyang declaration, financially, ipit daw talaga siya. Parang may problema something sa pera, which resulted to sa paggawa niya ng naturang violation,” Tagum City Police deputy chief Police Major Anjanette Tirador said.

The Tagum City Police Station has confirmed that the suspect will face charges of robbery and that they are continuing their investigation to determine if there are any accomplices or factors that contributed to the incident.

The arrest of a police officer for a crime as serious as robbery has once again raised concerns about the integrity and discipline of law enforcement in the Philippines. The police department has a duty to uphold the law and protect citizens, and any actions that violate that trust can lead to serious consequences, including disciplinary action and even imprisonment.

As this case continues to unfold, it serves as a reminder that no one is above the law, and that justice must be served regardless of one’s occupation or status in society.
