CIDG Confiscates Fake Hygiene Products Such as Shampoo & Deodorant
COUNTERFEIT PRODUCTS – CIDG seized P21 million worth of fake shampoo, deodorant and other hygiene products in Malabon City.
The operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit seized various types of fake Unilever products worth over P2.1 million in Barangay Potrero, Malabon City.
The operation was conducted after authorities received a complaint from the company’s lawyer and representative that a certain Jake Michael Bautista was involved in counterfeiting, manufacturing, and selling their products.
According to a report received by CIDG Director PBGen. Romeo Caramat, 334 large boxes containing shampoo, deodorant, Zeam coat powder, and others were seized.
Currently, the CIDG is in possession of the products for proper documentation and disposition, as well as the suspect Bautista who is facing multiple charges such as violating the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Act of 2009 and intellectual property rights.
The incident may serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by counterfeit products. The dangers of fake hygiene products are not limited to just the financial loss suffered by legitimate manufacturers.
Instead, the use of counterfeit products can cause serious harm to the consumers who use them. The ingredients used in fake products are often unknown and untested. These products may contain harmful substances that can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, or even more severe health problems.
