Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Southern Leyte, February 23, 2023
EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.0 magnitude quake in Southern Leyte today, Thursday, February 23, 2023.
Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Southern Leyte. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.0.
The earthquake that struck Southern Leyte today, Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 06:05 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Liloan.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Southern Leyte was located at 10.13°North, 125.12°East – 003 km South 10° East of Liloan with a depth of focus of 012 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. The following instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:
- Intensity I
- Talibon, Bohol
- Ormoc City, Leyte
- Intensity II
- Mahaplag, Leyte
- Abuyog, Leyte
- Maasin, Southern Leyte
- Malitbog, Southern Leyte
